MARQUETTE, Mich. - After a seven-year absence the Ramada Cup is back.ÃƒƒÃ‚ƒÃƒ‚Ã‚‚ÃƒƒÃ‚‚Ãƒ‚Ã‚ Presented by the Ramada Inns of Hancock and Marquette, the Ramada Cup will be awarded to the winner of the four-game regular season hockey series between Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan for the 2003-04 season.
The Ramada Cup was presented for eight seasons (1988-89 to 1995-96).ÃƒƒÃ‚ƒÃƒ‚Ã‚‚ÃƒƒÃ‚‚Ãƒ‚Ã‚ Northern Michigan won the first five years of the cup then Michigan Tech won two years in a row before the 'Cats won the final year that the cup was presented for the 1995-96 season.
The Ramada Cup will be presented after the December 13 game between the Wildcats and Huskies in Marquette.ÃƒƒÃ‚ƒÃƒ‚Ã‚‚ÃƒƒÃ‚‚Ãƒ‚Ã‚ Michigan Teach and Northern Michigan will meet in Houghton on the nights of October 18 and December 12 and then will meet in Marquette on October 17 and December 13.
Should the series be tied after the fourth game, a five-player sudden death shootout will be staged to determine a winner.
PAST RAMADA CUP WINNERS - 1988-89 - NMU (Series tied 2-2-0, NMU wins on total goals); 1989-90 - NMU (Win series, 3-1-0); 1990-91- NMU (Win series, 4-0-0); 1991-92 - NMU (Win series, 2-1-1); 1992-93 - NMU (Series tied 2-2-0, NMU wins on total goals); 1993-94 - MTU (Series tied 2-2-0, MTU wins shootout, 2-1); 1994-95 - MTU (Win series, 3-1-0); 1995-96 - NMU (Series tied 2-2-0, NMU wins shootout, 3-2).
