MARQUETTE, Mich.â€Ã‚“ On a cold, windy and rainy day the Northern Michigan Universitywomenâ€Ã‚™s soccer team was not like the weather. The â€Ã‚˜Cats scored two goals in the first half and three in the secondhalf to defeat Bemidji State 5-1 in the second game on Sunday in theHoliday/Ramada Inn Second Annual Soccer Tournament.  Saginaw Valley defeated St. Cloud in the first game on Sunday, 2-0.  NMU is now 4-2-1 on the season while Bemidjifalls to 1-5-1.

Carolyn Kunas scored the first goal for the â€Ã‚˜Cats at 39:38of the match on a pass from Rachel Vilders. Betsy Hubert made it 2-0 on a pass from Kunas at 42:47 of the game.  The opening of the second half saw Vildersmake it 3-0 on an assist from Michelle Brown. Kunas scored her second goal of the game from Vilders at the 54:52 markof the game to give the â€Ã‚˜Cats the lead at 4-0.

Katie Meinhardt put the Beavers on the board with a penaltykick at 55:56 of the game.  Vilders thenscored her second goal of the game at 76:31 for the final score on an assistfrom Kerri Vander Velden. 

Kunas leads the â€Ã‚˜Cats with five goals on the season.  NMU had 18 shots for the game while theBeavers had five. 

Next week the â€Ã‚˜Cats are back on the road as they play at theUniversity of Charleston on Thursday, September 18, then it is off to Davis andElkins on Friday, September 19 and the final stop on the West Virginia swing isat West Virginia Tech on Sunday, September 21.
