'Cats Ski At Spring Series

LUTSEN, Minn.  - Six members of the Northern MichiganUniversity alpine ski team competed over the past weekend (April 5-8) at theLutsen Spring Series.  The field wascomprised of the top elite athletes from the United States and included eliteinternational skiers as well.

Competing at the event was theU.S. Ski Team, including members of the 2002 Olympic Team.  Other countries represented were Sweden,Norway and Canada.

The first day of competition wasthe slalom event as Kate Hosking led the 'Cats with a 25th placing followed byDanielle Denbleyker who was 33rd and Meri Koski who was 39th.

Day two was the second day of theslalom event as Jazz Centauro led the way with a 26th placing showing, Hoskingwas 36th, Koski was 40th and Sara Brown was 70th.

The third day of the competitionwas the first day of the giant slalom event. Denbleyker was 20th followed by Hosking in the 28th spot and Koski was29th.  Other 'Cats who placed in theevent were Centauro in 47th place, Lori Hellowell who was 50th and Brown whowas 65th.

The final day of the event wasthe second day of the giant slalom as Denbleyker led the way with an 18th placefinish in the event.  Hosking was thenext 'Cat to place in the event in the 25th spot as Koski in the 41st spot andCentauro in the 45th spot followed in the event.  Brown and Hellowell were 58th and 62nd respectively in the event.

The Lutsen Spring Series was oneof several post-season competitions, which the alpine skiers will compete atover the spring.
