HANOVER, N.H. â€Ã‚“ Chris Cook became the first Americansince 1993 to win the menâ€Ã‚™s 20k classical race as he won the race today at the2003 NCAA Skiing National Collegiate Championships.  The last person to accomplish this was also from NMU as PeterVordenberg won the event at the 1993 NCAA Skiing National CollegiateChampionships in Steamboat Springs, Colo.

Cook overtook Vermontâ€Ã‚™s Ethan Foster in the final 200 metersand hung on to win the race.  Cookâ€Ã‚™stime was 58:43.4 as Foster skied the course in 58:43.6.

Dave Duede and Jon Filardo also skied in the race.  Duede was 33rd (1:04:15.1) whileteammate Filardo was next in the 34th spot (1:04:34.8).

NMU is 10th in the team standings with 259.0points.  The University of Utah leadsthe team competition with 539.0 points. The final day of the championships is tomorrow (March 8) with the menâ€Ã‚™sand womenâ€Ã‚™s slalom.
