MARQUETTE, Mich. â€Ã‚“ The Northern Michigan Universityhockey team seems to have the number of the Lake Superior Lakers.  Leading for the majority of the game theWildcats scored two goals in the third period to take the game 2-1.  With the win the â€Ã‚˜Cats get to keep the CappoCup in Marquette and now have won the past nine games against the Lakers.  NMU is now 15-12-2 overall on the season and11-9-1 in the CCHA.  Lake State falls to4-21-4 and 1-19-1.

The Lakers struck first when Derek Seal scored his firstgoal of the season at 6:25 of the first period.  The â€Ã‚˜Cats had their chances in the first two periods.  Chris Gobert would tie the game with hisninth goal of the season at 5:48 of the third period.  â€Ã‚œIt is always hard to generate offense against them,â€Ã‚ Gobertsaid.  â€Ã‚œThey are big, strong and usuallyall over you.â€Ã‚ÃƒÃ‚ƒÃƒ‚‚ ÃƒÃ‚‚  Dirk Southern and JimmyJackson assisted on Gobertâ€Ã‚™s goal.  Linemate Terry Harrison scored the game-winner at 13:18 of the third for his 13thgoal of the season.  Gobert and Southernassisted.  The lines were tweaked a bitfor tonightâ€Ã‚™s game as Southern centered the number two line between Gobert andHarrison. Kevin Gardner was the center for the top line between Mike Stutzeland Bryce Cockburn.  â€Ã‚œCoach is justtrying to get all four lines going and get more shots and more offensiveopportunities,â€Ã‚ Harrison said.  â€Ã‚œI thinkit is working.â€Ã‚ÃƒÃ‚ƒÃƒ‚‚ 

For the fourth game in a row the â€Ã‚˜Cats could not score onthe power play.  They are now 0-15 inthe past four games.  The lastpower-play goal was scored against Alaska Fairbanks on Friday night (Jan.31). Ã‚  Both teams had two power playopportunities on Friday night.

Tuomas Tarkki (2-1-0) started in goal for the â€Ã‚˜Cats onFriday night as he had 11 saves on the night. Matt Violin went the distance for the Lakers and had 27 saves.  NMU had 29 shots while LSSU had 12.  â€Ã‚œThey are a tough team to play,â€Ã‚ Walt Kyle,NMU head coach, said.  â€Ã‚œThey are verymuch improved over the beginning of the year.â€Ã‚

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night (Feb. 15) atAbel Arena in The Soo.
