MARQUETTE, Mich. - Over the weekend the NMU womenâ€Ã‚™scross country ski team competed at the NMU Invitational that was held at the AlQuaal Trails in Ishpeming.  On Saturday(Feb. 1) the womenâ€Ã‚™s team won the 5K Freestyle event with 84 points as MichiganTech was second with 69 points.  Sundaywas the 10K Classic and again the Wildcats won the team score with 84 points asTech was second with 72 points.

Scoring points for the â€Ã‚˜Cats in the 5K were Tami Kochen whowas second in the event, but for point purposes was first.  ErinnWhitmer of Alaska Fairbanks won theevent (17:11.2), but she was the lone skier from Fairbanks.  Kochen had a time of 17:14.3.  Hilary Patzer was next in a time of 17:21.3while teammate Rachel Daw followed for the â€Ã‚˜Cats (17:22.8).

Other skiers in the race from NMU were Maria Stuber(17:34.6); Jordan Seethaler (17:47.8); Katherine Huemmer (17:53.6); ShannonDikkema (18:26.2); Aniya Deitz (18:38.7); Maria Stewart 18:50.0); StephanieHowe (18:55.0); and Maggie Sorenson (19:37.4). 

In the 10K race on Sunday, Whitmer won the event with a timeof 42:21.2.  Patzer was the first â€Ã‚˜Catto cross the finish line in a time of 42:57.8. Kochen (43:14.9) and Daw (43:15.2) scored points for the â€Ã‚˜Cats.

Other skiers from NMU who crossed the finish line wereDikkema (43:49.3); Seethaler (43:52.7); Huemmer (44:13.9); Stuber (45:25.3);Howe (46:02.1); Deitz (46:16.9); Stewart (47:40.7); and Sorenson (49:23.6).
