MARQUETTE, Mich. â€Ã‚“ The NMU menâ€Ã‚™s cross country skiteam led after the first day of competition at the Saint Olaf CCSA Invitationalon Saturday.  The team racked up 83points in the 10K Freestyle race. Alaska Fairbanks was second with 81 points. 

The â€Ã‚˜Cats had seven skiers in the top 15.  Chris Cook won the event with a time of2:47.1.  Jon Filardo was third (2:57.1)and Hjalmar Westie was fifth (2:59.2).

Dave Duede and Joey Graci both skated the course in a timeof 3:02.4.  Duede was 10th asGraci was 11th.  Matt Nielsenand Adriaan Ostrander finished a very close race for 14th and 15threspectively.  Nielsen had a time of3:07.9 while Ostrander had a time of 3:08.0.

The second day of the event will be on Sunday (Jan. 26).
