'Cats Hot Shooting In First Half Paves The Way For The Win

 

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The NMU menâ€Ã‚™s basketball teampicked up a big GLIAC win on Thursday night at the Berry Events Center.  The â€Ã‚˜Cats shot a sizzling 62.1 percent fromthe floor (18-29) for the first half to lead Northwood by 10 after the first 20minutes of play, 45-35.  For the gamethe â€Ã‚˜Cats shot 51.9 percent from the floor (27-52) as they defeated Northwoodby a score of  Ã‚ 77-72. NMU is now 11-6 overall on the season and 7-2 in the GLIAC.  Northwood falls to 7-10 and 3-6.

NMU led the entire 40 minutes of play and did not let theTimberwolves get any closer than three points late in the game.  The â€Ã‚˜Cats used a 24-8 run the first nineminutes of the game to set the tone for the rest of the night.  NMU made their free throws when it countedon Thursday night as they converted on 70 percent of  their throws (14-20).

The â€Ã‚˜Cats were 9-20 from the three-point line on the night(45 percent). 

Northwood did win the battle of the boards as they had 34rebounds to the â€Ã‚˜Cats 26.  But, theTimberwolves turned the ball over 17 times on the night.  NMU had 12 turnovers.

Billy Hill led the way for the â€Ã‚˜Cats on Thursday night with19 points and four assists.  Marco Volcyhad 17 points and five rebounds.  KederHyppolite added 14 points in the win. 

The team will be in action again on Monday night (Jan. 27)at Houghton, Mich. to take on Michigan Tech.
