WAKEFIELD, Mich. â€Ã‚“ The NMU alpine ski team competedat the Indian Head Mid Am event on Jan. 10-11. Ã‚  The race featured top elite athletes from Ohio, Illinois,Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Canada. Both days of competition were slalom events.  Seven members of the NMU alpine team competed alone with twoformer members of the squad.  To preparefor this race and for the collegiate season, members of the alpine ski team hadbeen competing in Colorado, Quebec and Vermont.

The first day of competition on Jan. 10 saw former NMU skierJennifer Crockett place second in the slalom with a time of 50.24.  Other skiers who competed included:  Danielle Denbleyker, seventh (53.10); MeriKoski, 15th (53.85); Lori Hellowell, 35th (56.62);Lindsey Agnew, 46th (58.86); and Sarah Brown, 51st(59.81).

The second day of competition on Jan. 11 saw three athleteswith NMU ties place in the top five. Former â€Ã‚˜Cat, Crockett was second in the event with a time of 46.50,current member of the team Kate Hosking was fourth with a time of 47.33 andanother former NMU athlete Christy Salonen was fifth in a time of 47.96.  Other skiers who competed included:  Denbleyker, 10th (49.42); Koski,14th (49.57); Hellowell, 41st (52.43); Agnew, 48th(53.38); and Brown, 51st (55.32).

The skiers will be skiing next on Jan. 18-19 at the St.Lawrence University Carnival in Hull, Quebec.
