'Cats Snap Six-game Winning Streak

 

HILLSDALE, Mich. â€Ã‚“ As the old saying goes, â€Ã‚œAll goodthings must come to an end,â€Ã‚ could describe the NMU womenâ€Ã‚™s basketball team onSaturday afternoon at Hillsdale College. Entering the game, the â€Ã‚˜Cats were riding a six-game winning streak.  But, that ended on Saturday as the Chargersdefeated the â€Ã‚˜Cats 87-63.  Hillsdaleimproves to 12-1 overall and 5-0 in the GLIAC. NMU on the other hand is now 7-5 and 4-2.

NMU jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, but that was the onlylead that the â€Ã‚˜Cats would enjoy on the afternoon.  Hillsdale went on a 17-8 run to take command of the game andnever looked back.  The Chargers enjoyeda 46-35 halftime advantage.  After thefirst 20 minutes of action NMU was shooting at a 44.8 percent clip from thefloor (13-29) while Hillsdale was shooting 45 percent from the floor(18-40).  Hillsdale did make four oftheir three-point attempts in the first half as the â€Ã‚˜Cats only found the rangeonce for a three-pointer. 

In the second half the Chargers extended their lead to ashigh as 26 points with 3:47 left in the game (83-57).  The â€Ã‚˜Cats percentage wise did shoot better than the Chargers inthe second half at 41.7 percent to 35 percent. For the game the â€Ã‚˜Cats shot 43.4 percent (23-53) to the Chargers 40percent (32-80).  From the three-pointline the Chargers were shooting 25 percent (6-24) while the â€Ã‚˜Cats were at 23.1percent (3-13).  NMU from the free throwline was 14-16 for 87.5 percent while Hillsdale was 85 percent (17-20).  The Chargers did out-rebound the â€Ã‚˜Cats onthe afternoon by a 50 to 31 rebounding count. The Chargers were dominate on the offensive boards as they had 28offensive rebounds to the â€Ã‚˜Cats nine.

Michelle Moard led the â€Ã‚˜Cats for the game with 16points.  Jessica Nohl who was back inthe lineup after missing the Findlay game because of an illness and had 12points and five rebounds.  CaitlynKennedy led the Chargers with 19 points and 18 rebounds.

The squad will be back in action on Monday night (Jan. 13)at Wayne State.
