'Cats Win First Game In Omaha

Untitled Document OMAHA, Neb. - Tuomas Tarrki playing in place of Craig Kowalski, who was suspended earlier in the week, had 26 saves on the night as the 'Cats defeated the University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks, 2-1, on Friday night at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. The win was the 'Cats first win in Omaha in three tries. With the win NMU is now 7-4-1 overall and 6-3-0 in the CCHA. The Mavs drop to 3-7-1 and 2-5-0 in the conference.
Mike Stutzel scored his sixth goal of the season at 16:14 of the first period to give the 'Cats the early lead. Nathan Oystrick and Jimmy Jackson assisted on the goal. The Mavs would answer in the second period to tie the game at one all, when David Brisson scored at 8:36 of the period.
Bryce Cockburn scored the game-winner at 2:11 of the final period for his fourth goal of the season on the power play. Stutzel and Peter Michelutti assisted on the game-winning goal.
For Tarkki it was his fourth career start in goal for the 'Cats as he also picked up the first star of the game. Dan Ellis was in goal for the Mavs as he had 17 saves on the night.
The 'Cats will be looking for the sweep as the two teams will meet again on Saturday night at the Omaha Civic Auditorium for the second game of the CCHA set.
