Football Wildcats End Season On A Downer

WILDCATS END SEASON ON A DOWNER

MARQUETTE, Mich. - In an offensive shootout in Midland, Mich.on Saturday afternoon, November 16th, Northwood University scored thethird-most points in school history beating Northern Michigan 64-42.  The twoteams combined for 1,056 yards in total offense and 106 total points.  The 42points by NMU were the most in a losing effort this season.  Northwood closedout the season with a 7-4 overall record and 7-3 in the GLIAC.  For NMU, it wastheir third straight loss and they finished the year with a 6-5 overall recordand a 6-4 GLIAC record, finishing fifth.  Northwood jumped out to a 29-14 halftimelead and led 57-21 before NMU scored three times in the fourth quarter.  Northwoodrunning back Chad Coons rushed for a career-high 211 yards and tied a schoolrecord with four TD's of 55, 9, 9 and 1-yard.  Wildcat quarterback Kyle Swenorcompleted 24 of 42 passes and threw TD's of 76-yards to Brandon Munson and 20-yardsto Matt Bush and had one interception.  He set a new NMU record for most yardspassing in a season, 2,839, breaking the old record of 2,636 set by KeithNelsen in 1984.  Munson had six receptions in the game for 149 yards, givinghim 950 yards for the season on 76 receptions.  Pat Rouzard also had sixreceptions in the game for 59 yards.  Junior running back Terrell Goldsmithrushed for 112 yards on 13 carries and scored on runs of 33, 4 and 2-yardsgiving him 14 rushing touchdowns on the season, the most since Steve Averyrushed for 14 in 1988.  Junior linebacker Brandon Genwright led the Wildcatdefense with 18 total tackles, including 12 solos.  Senior Ben Laarman closedout his career with 16 total tackles, including 14 solos and senior Casey Youngadded 12 tackles.
