MARQUETTE, Mich. - The NorthernMichigan University Wildcats suffered their first defeat on the young season onday two of the NMU/Ramada Inn Invitational. Minnesota-Duluth defeated the 'Catsin four games (28-30, 28-30, 30-25, 30-24) as the squad is now 2-1 for theseason.
Jennie Little and Holly Greenamyre both had 13 kills during the match to leadthe 'Cats. Kelli McCune dished out 32 assists for the team as Anne Kinsellacame of the bench to pass for 16 assists. Meaghan Kimball had 21 digs for amatch-high total. Beth Laveen had four solo blocks and two assisted blocks forthe Wildcats.
Little and Greenamyre were both named to the All-Tournament Team. Becky Kukowskiof Minnesota-Duluth was named the MVP. Also named to the All-Tournament teamwere Taryn Franznick of Michigan Tech, Greta Iisakka of Minnesota-Duluth andNoelle Moore of Rollins College.
In other matches on Saturday, Duluth defeated Rollins (30-22, 30-25, 30-22),Michigan Tech defeated Minnesota-Crookston (30-25, 26-30, 30-19, 30-17) and inthe final match of the day Rollins took Crookston to five games (28-30, 26-30,31-29, 30-27, 15-8).
The 'Cats are at the Colorado Premier Challenge next week (Sept. 6-7).
