MARQUETTE, Mich. - The NorthernMichigan Wildcats won both of their first day matches at the NMU/Ramada InnInvitational on Friday. The Wildcats defeated Minnesota-Crookston in the secondmatch of the day in four games (30-22, 30-20, 28-30, 30-17)
In the other two matches of the day, Michigan Tech split as they defeatedRollins in four games (32-30, 30-27, 24-30, 30-27) (
Against Crookston the Wildcats were led by newcomer Holly Greenamyre who had 17kills, three service aces and three solo blocks. Beth Laveen was the second'Cat in double-digits in kills with 14. Kelli McCune had 40 assists againstCrookston. Jennie Little and Meaghan Kimball both had 11 digs in the trenches.
In the final match of the day against Rollins the Wildcats were led by the duoof Little and Laveen as they both had 17 kills. McCune again had the hot handwith 44 assists. Kimball was digging away again as she led the Wildcats with 17digs.
NMU will play Duluth at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 31 in the third match ofthe second day of action at the NMU/Ramada Inn Invitational.
Rollins faces Duluth in the first match of the day at 11:00 a.m. Crookston willface Tech at 1:00 p.m. in the second match of the day. Rollins and Crookstonwill play in the finale of the invitational at 6:00 p.m.
