Wildcats Picked Fourth In Pre-season GLIAC Poll

MARQUETTE, Mich

MARQUETTE, Mich. - Thehead volleyball coaches of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference(GLIAC) chose Grand Valley State University to win the league's North Divisionand The University of Findlay to take the South Division in pre-seasonballoting.
The NMU Wildcats were picked to finish fourth in the North Division. TheWildcats picked up 22 points in the voting. Grand Valley was picked to win theNorth Division as they tallied 36 points and six first place votes. Northwoodwas picked second with 30 points as Ferris State was picked third with 26points and one first place vote.
Findlay was picked as the top team in the GLIAC South Division with 24 pointsand four first place votes. Hillsdale was picked second in the South Divisionwith 20 points and one first place vote. One point behind the Chargers was Mercyhurstwith 19 points and one first place vote.
Four GLIAC teams participated in the NCAA II Great Lakes Region Tournament in2001 (Grand Valley State, Northwood, Findlay and Northern Michigan). Grand Valley State won the regional championship and hosted the "Elite Eight,"Division II's national championship tournament, reaching the semifinals beforebowing out.
Each of the GLIAC's 13 coaches voted for the division in which they play, butwere not allowed to vote for their own team. The first-place team in the NorthDivision ballot received six points, while the second-place team received fivepoints, etc. The first-place team in the South Division received five points,while the second-place team received four points, etc.
