MARQUETTE, Mich. - The NMU hockey team seems to have Michigan'snumber.ÃƒƒÃ‚ƒÃƒ‚Ã‚‚ÃƒƒÃ‚‚Ãƒ‚Ã‚ The 'Cats won for the fifth straight time against the Wolverines,dating back to the 2000-01 season. It was also the 'Cats second sweep of theWolverines in as many series. Craig Kowalski has been in goal for all fivewins. Tonight at the Berry Events Center, Kowalski did it again as he led the'Cats to a 4-1 victory and the weekend sweep. Kowalski turned away 24 of the 25shots he faced on the night.
NMU is now 9-5-1 overall and 8-4-0 in the CCHA while Michigan is now 11-4-1 and 6-3-1.
The Wolverines would score first to get on the board, butthat would be it for the Maize and Blue. Bryce Cockburn tied the game at oneall with a power play goal at 15:15 of the first period. The goal was his fifthof the season as Mike Stutzel and Jamie Milam assisted.
The 'Cats would score three goals in the third period to putthe game away. Stutzel knocked home his 10th goal of the season at 5:34 of the third period to give the 'Cats the lead for good at 2-1. Cockburn and Alenassisted. At 11:09 of the period, Alex Sawruk scored his third goal of theseason from Chris Gobert. Gobert would then turn around and score the finalgoal of the game into an empty net at 19:37.
Al Montoya was in goal for the Wolverines as he turned away15 shots. For the second night in a row the Wolverines had the advantage inshots with a 25 to 19 count.
The 'Cats are in action again next Friday night (Dec. 13) atthe Berry Events Center against Michigan Tech at 7:05 p.m.
