MARQUETTE, Mich. - Walt Kyle,the head hockey coach at Northern Michigan University, has announced thecaptain and alternate captains for the 2002-03 season. He has named BryceCockburn the captain of the squad for the season. The alternate captains are ChrisGobert, Terry Harrison, Jimmy Jackson and Mike Stutzel. "I expect Bryce(Cockburn) to lead this squad with the alternate captains and the otherseniors," Kyle said.
Cockburn has been named the captain for this year's edition of Wildcat hockey.He was an alternate captain for the 2001-02 season. The senior (6-0, 202) from Campbell River, B.C. is the top returning goal scorer for the Wildcats as he had 20goals last season. He also had 19 assists for 39 points in 2001-02. For hiscareer, Cockburn has played in 107 games, scored 46 goals with 35 assists for81 points.
Gobert (5-9, 175) had 19 goals during the 2001-02 campaign for the 'Cats. Heregistered 19 assists for 38 points last season. For his career, the senior and Marquette native, has appeared in 106 games, scored 47 goals with 54 assistsfor 101 points.
Harrison (5-11, 185), a senior, missed 15 games during the 2001-02 seasonbecause of an injury, but managed to score six goals, nine assists for 15points. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native has appeared in 76 games for the Greenand Gold where he has scored 24 goals, 29 assists for 53 points.
An alternate captain last season, Jackson (6-0, 195), tallied two goals and 13 assistsfor 15 points in 2001-02. The senior and Marquette native has appeared in 113career games for the 'Cats where he has 17 goals, 47 assists for 64 points.
The final alternate captain is Stutzel (6-2, 215). The senior from Victoria,B.C., played in all 40 games last season as he registered 16 goals, 17 assistsfor 33 points. For his career, Stutzel has appeared in 85 games for the 'Catswhere he has scored 22 goals, with 28 assists for 50 points.
The Wildcats open the 2002-03 season tomorrow night, Oct. 5, at Michigan Tech(7:05 p.m.).
