Northern Michigan University will host Family Weekend Oct. 9-11. The event is designed so that families can feel as if they are a part of their student’s college experience. Events start on Friday, Oct. 9. An information table will be set up in the University Center atrium from 2-5 p.m. with schedules, information on local attractions and tickets for Family Weekend activities.
An all-you-care-to-eat fish fry with music by Jim & Ray will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Marketplace on campus. Tickets can be purchased at the door or a student can use a guest pass. A women’s volleyball game against the Malone Pioneers is scheduled at 4 p.m. in Vandament Arena.
Omid Singh, an international comedian with a fast-paced comedy routine, will perform at 8 p.m. Friday in 1100 Jamrich Hall. Admission is free. Singh is of half Indian, half Persian descent. He lived in more than a dozen different cities across three continents. From the suburbs of Orange County to Texas to Dubai, his unique upbringing has influenced his comedy. In 2013, Singh made his acting debut as a terrorist in the Academy Award winning film Argo. His NMU visit is sponsored by PrimeTime Productions.
A tailgate party is scheduled from 11-12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, in Vandament Arena. It features picnic food, door prizes an an appearance by the Wildcat Marching Band. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are available through NMU EZ Ticket outlets. The party precedes the 1 p.m. football game between the Wildcats and Malone. Women’s volleyball will play the Walsh Cavaliers at 4 p.m. Saturday in Vandament Arena. At 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. in Jamrich 1100, Campus Cinema will host the movie, Mission Impossible: Roque Nation. Admission is free for NMU students and $1 for non-students.
The Marketplace will offer a Family Weekend brunch prepared by Dining Services staff and NMU culinary students on Sunday, Oct. 11. It is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
