MARQUETTE, Mich.— Several local musicians will perform “The Songs of Mark Mitchell” as part of the Beaumier Coffee House series at Northern Michigan University. The show honoring the influential folk singer-songwriter begins at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, in the Panowski Black Box Theatre in the McClintock Building. Participating musicians include Michael Waite, Malamute, Corinne Rockow, Dan Truckey, Jim and Ray and more. The suggested donation is $5 for adults and $1 for students/children.

Mitchell is a Marquette native and resident.

“This show is being held to honor him because he was one of the first folk singers in the area in the 1980s who was recording and releasing albums,” said Dan Truckey, director of the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center at NMU. “He was also writing about a lot of local historic events. This made him an inspiration to a lot of young folk singers in this area.”

Mitchell was involved in the planning of the annual Hiawatha Music Festival held in Marquette.
