Northern Michigan University offers one of the 15 most affordable bachelor’s degrees in entrepreneurship nationwide, according to the independent college search and rankings site, AffordableSchools.net. NMU is the only Michigan school on the list.
“Job growth for careers relating to entrepreneurship studies ranges from 7-15 percent between 2012 and 2022,” said Raj Dash, lead researcher, citing Bureau of Labor Statistics data. “This is compared to 11 percent growth for all careers in the USA for the same duration. The list is a starting point for finding bachelor’s programs in entrepreneurship.”
NMU’s entrepreneurship major is designed for students who want to develop their own businesses or excel in a wide range of business environments. It provides a comprehensive foundation in finance, accounting, management, marketing and computer information systems. The NMU College of Business also hosts a Celebration of Entrepreneurship Conference and sponsors a New Business Venture Competition for NMU students.
“A student-operated organization titled TEAM Business (Training, Education, Application and Mastery) is entering its second full year of operation and is one of the only programs of its kind,” said David Rayome, dean of the College of Business. “It matches students with entrepreneurs on short- and long-term projects and is open to all NMU students.”

AffordableSchools.net is presenting an ongoing series on affordable bachelor’s degrees. The entrepreneurship ranking was compiled with data from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), a bureau of the U.S. Department of Education. Using NCES’s College Navigator online service, AffordableSchools.net queried for all higher education institutions in the United States that offer a bachelor’s degree in entrepreneurship or similar, sorted by NCES’ listed “yearly net average price.”
