MARQUETTE, Mich. — The Superior International Wrestling Camp, hosted by Northern Michigan University’s Olympic Training Site, concluded today after a successful week. Approximately 95 athletes from five different countries participated in the event, which lasted 10 days.
Notable international attendees included athletes from France, Sweden, Germany and Czech Republic; U.S. teams participating included teams from Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Minnesota and Ohio, as well as individual participants from all across the country.
Dack Punke (Team Illinois) said of the event, “NMU has great facilities. This camp
helped me by putting me in unfamiliar positions, helping me be comfortable with different styles in competition.” Brogan Stewart (Portland, Ore.) said, “The camp and duals showed what I need to work on. It was great to see the Europeans and really showed me what level of success others have achieved and where I can get to.”
Athletes participated in a variety of activities while at NMU including training in the NMU-OTS training room, hiking Sugarloaf Mountain, off the mat training on the Superior Dome turf, playing soccer, and other outdoor activities. The camp helped Team USA athletes learn the different styles the European athletes use in competition, and vice versa. The camp concluded with three days of competitive matches.
