MARQUETTE, Mich. — All five Northern Michigan University Olympic Training Site student-athletes who competed at last weekend’s (March 1-2) Arnold Weightlifting Championships set personal records, giving the OTS a strong showing.
“The Arnold isn’t our most important meet, but it’s a great tune up for our athletes. It falls right between the American Open and the Senior Championships,” said Coach Vance Newgard. “It’s especially important for Vanessa McCoy. Her performance should put her in good shape to make the Pan-American championships team.”
McCoy, of Wichita Falls, Texas, won the 63 kilograms weight category with a total lift of 186 kg, consisting of a personal best of 86 kg in the snatch and 100kg in the clean and jerk.
In the 105 kg class, Brian Budd, of Okemos, captured personal records in all three categories: his snatch (132 kg), clean and jerk (113 kg) and total (245 kg).
In the 69 kg class, Holly Kreminski, of Port Charlotte, also had two career lifts with 69 kg in the snatch and 84 kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 163 kg.
Marquette natives Annie Bengry and Holly O’Dovero hit career high totals with 108 kg in the 53kg class and 127kg in the 58kg class, respectively. Bengry lifted 48kg in the snatch and 60 in the clean and jerk. O’Dovero hoisted 56kg in the snatch and 71 in the clean and jerk.
