MARQUETTE, Mich. – United States Olympic Education Center Greco-Roman wrestlers Max Nowry and Kendrick Sanders have been chosen to represent the United States at the Pan American Championships April 5 in Panama City, Panama. The competition is the annual continental championship for North, South and Central American athletes.

“Max and Kendrick were chosen because they are highly ranked and for their performance this year,” said coach Rob Hermann. “This is big for our program and the athletes.”

Nowry, of Wheeling, Ill., will compete in the 55-kilogram weight class. The 2012 University World Champion is looking forward to the international experience.

“Wrestling against top international athletes will be great,” said Nowry.  “This event will help me evaluate how I compare to athletes outside the United States and what I need to work on. I’m proud to be representing my country.”

Sanders, of Homestead, Fla., will compete at 66 kg. He took second at the 2011 Pan American Games and has great expectations for the competition.

“The opportunity to wrestle against some of the best is great,” said Sanders. “I’m not only looking for the win, but to use this event to help me sharpen my wrestling for the upcoming competitions as well.”

In addition to the United States, athletes from the following countries are expected to compete: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Columbia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico and Venezuela.
