Nordic Skiing Leads CCSA Championships Going into Final Day

 

COLERAINE, Minn. – The Northern Michigan University men’s and women’s Nordic skiing teams are currently competing at the CCSA championships at Mt. Itasca. On Saturday (Feb. 16) the men raced the 10-kilometer and the women competed in the 5-kilometer classic races.

On the men’s side, sophomore Erik Soderman earned his first conference title victory of the year, finishing with a time of 26:14.2. Kyle Bratrud placed just behind him in second with a time of 26:19.7.

Chris Bowler posted the conference’s fifth-best time with a time of 26:42.0 to give the Wildcats three of the top six spots of the day. George Cartwright also competed for NMU, finishing in seventh place.

Hannah Boyer led the Northern women with a second place finish in the 5km with a time of 15:18.6. Jordyn Ross had a time of 15:19.3, good for third place. In fifth place was Mary Kate Cirelli with a time of 15:24.1. Rosie Frankowski rounded out the top 10, in ninth.

The CCSA championships wrap up on Sunday (Feb. 17) at Mt. Itasca. With strong performances from both the men’s and women’s sides, NMU leads with a combined 447 points, putting them well ahead of second place Alaska’s 369 points. St. Scholastica and Michigan Tech enter Sunday with 348 points apiece.
