MARQUETTE, Mich. – Sophomore Lauren Gruber, of the Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team, has been named NMU’s Student-Athlete Scholar of the Month for December by the Athletic Council.
Gruber is majoring in entertainment and sports promotion and currently holds a 3.78 grade point average. She was nominated by Tom Isaacson, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Public Relations.
“Lauren has distinguished herself from her classmates in a variety of ways,” Isaacson said. “First, she obtained the top score in my Introduction to Public Relations class on a challenging exam. The class average was 66 percent, Lauren earned a score of 93 percent and was the only student in the class with a score over 90 percent.
“Lauren is active in class and further demonstrates her mastery of class content by linking material to modern activities in Public Relations. Students are strongly encouraged to pay attention to current events and news covered by national media, then apply what they learn to class concepts. Lauren has exhibited an understanding of this that helps her personal professional development and contributes positively to the classroom experience.”
Gruber leads the Wildcats in points (236) and minutes played (687) while shooting 48 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from the three-point line.
