Swimmers in Fifth After Day Two at GLIACs
CANTON, Ohio – The Northern Michigan University swimming and diving team finished day two at the 2013 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship on Thursday (Feb. 7) from CT Branin Natatorium. The Wildcats sit in fifth place with 170 points after 16 events. Northern is five points behind Hillsdale.
NMU had three top five finishes on the day led by sophomores Madisen Sechena and Debbi Lawrence in the 200-yard individual medley. Sechena was third and Lawrence was fourth as both swam NCAA B cut times. Sophomore Molly Kearney placed fourth in the one-meter dive with 416.9 points.
The 200 freestyle squad placed seventh as junior Meghan Cepela, Sechena, sophomore Emily Bourguignon and sophomore Tara Dowling swam the event.
Sophomore Emily Brennan placed eighth and Dowling was 12th in the 500 freestyle. Freshman Caitlin Brenden also scored for the Green and Gold with a 14th place finish in the 200 IM.
Competition continues on Friday (Feb. 8) with preliminaries beginning at 10:30 a.m. and the finals at 5:30 p.m. Events on scheduled for Northern is the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 400 medley relay.
