STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Northern Michigan University indoor track and field team competed at the Pointer Invitational on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Points on Saturday (Feb. 2).
The Wildcats had four first place finishes. Sophomore Brittni Wirtz won the 60-meter dash in 7.88 seconds and was fourth in the 200m dash.
Junior Chelsea Farquhar, sophomore Olivia Howard and senior Rita Woitas took the top three spots in the 5,000m run while senior Brittany Loomis was eighth.
The distance medley relay team won in 13:11.51. Running the event was freshman Jaylee Brown, sophomore Larissa Halonen, redshirt freshman Abby Roche and sophomore Katie Granquist.
Junior Cheyenne Stewart won the long jump, clearing 18 feet, 1.75 inches and placed second in the high jump with a jump of 5 feet, 3.25 inches. Junior Delaney Lovett was second in the triple jump (35-4.5).
Senior Brooke Granquist finished second in the pentathlon with 2,931 points.
The 4x400 relay squad finished third with Brooke Granquist, junior Sydney Schultz, senior Colby West and Wirtz.
West and Schultz finished ninth and 10th in the 400m dash. Senior Mariah Beaman was 11th in the long jump.
Katie Granquist (6th), sophomore Caitlin Keskey (11th) and Brown (14th) had strong performances in the 800m run. Junior Mallory Celaya (5th), sophomore Emily Allen (12th) and junior Evelyn Ruiz (13th) ran the 3,000m. Halonen (5:25.11) finished 14th in the one mile run.
Northern heads downstate next weekend (Feb. 8-9) for the GVSU Big Meet in Allendale.
