Men’s Basketball Plays Final Non-Conference Game

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team wraps up its non-conference schedule with a road trip to Lewis University on Sunday (Dec. 30). Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. Eastern from Neil Carey Arena in Romeoville, Ill.

NMU is 2-7 overall and 1-5 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Wildcats split on their last road trip in mid-December. NMU is 1-2 in non-conference games with a win over Finlandia and losses to Winston Salem State and Lincoln (Pa.) and the Fresh Coast Classic.

Three players average double figures for the ‘Cats led by junior forward Matthew Craggs with 15.2 points per game. He is shooting 49 percent from the floor and 48.6 from the three-point line. Redshirt freshman guard Terry Nash is averaging 12 points in the three games he’s played, shooting 59.3 percent from the field. Junior forward Scooter Johnson is putting up 10.9 points per game.

Senior forward TJ Cameron is second in the GLIAC in three-point percentage at 54.2 percent. He has connected on 13-of-24 attempts. Sophomore forward Kendall Jackson is 31-for-52 from the field for 59.6 percent, placing him third in the GLIAC.

The Flyers enter the game with a 5-2 record, including a 4-0 mark at home. Lewis has won four games in a row and is led by Ryan Jackson’s 17.9 points per game. Jeff Jarosz (11.7) and David Bryant (11.0) also average double figures.

The Flyers are holding their opponents to 59.1 points per game and under 40 percent shooting while scoring 72.0 points per game and making 47.8 percent of their shots. It is also the final non-conference game for the home squad as they haven’t started Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

The two teams met in Marquette last year with the Flyers defeating the Wildcats 87-53. Lewis leads the all-time series 2-1.
