SUPERIOR, WIS.– The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team defeated the University of Wisconsin-Superior in its final exhibition game of the season. The Wildcats defeated the Yellowjackets 56-43 from Mertz Mortorelli Gym.
The ‘Cats led the game from beginning to end, leading 24-17 at the half. The Yellow Jackets trailed the entire second half, not getting within more than a seven-point margin.
Sophomore Alyssa Colla led all scorers with 14 points on four field goals, one three-point shot and had three points from the charity stripe. Sophomores Lauren Gruber and Abbey DeBruin each were in double figures with ten points. The ‘Cats were 14-of-22 from the free throw line. Gruber led the team with 10 rebounds (eight defensive, two offensive) and sophomore Brooke Coenen added nine more (five defensive and one offensive). Colla and DeBruin each added tallied six rebounds.
For the Yellow Jackets, Connie Urmanski had 12 points, while Randa Glazier had seven. Deandra Vavra and Sally Lindzmeier had six points apiece. Glazier also added six rebounds (three offensive and three defensive). The Yellow Jackets were also 14-of-22 from the charity stripe.
UW had 10 turnovers on the afternoon to NMU’s 25. The ‘Cats led the boards with 53 rebounds, while UW had 34.
Northern opens the regular season on Nov. 10, hosting Davenport University at 6 p.m. from the Berry Events Center.
