ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University volleyball team continued its three-match winning streak in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup against Grand Valley State. Northern took the victory in five sets on Friday (Oct. 26).
The Wildcats (16-9 and 8-4 GLIAC) took set one (25-23) before Grand Valley took sets two and three (25-22 and 25-15). Coach Dominic Yoder’s squad was able to rebound in the fourth (25-19) to send the match into a fifth set for the win (15-11).
Junior Lina Lopes led the Wildcats with 19 kills, while freshman Lisa Studnicka (11) and junior Sarah Hamilton (10) each entered double figures. The team finished with 54 kills and a .200 attacking percentage. Senior Kalin Zimmerman tallied 17 digs to lead the ‘Cats. Junior Suzanne Solin added 15, with Lopes and junior Kellisha Harley each having 12. Harley tallied 52 assists.
For the Lakers, Megan Schroeder had 20 kills and Abby Aiken had 16. GVSU finished with 58 kills for a .182 attack percentage. Christina Canepa tallied 17 digs, with Clair Ruhenkamp adding 14 more. Ruhenkamp had 52 assists on the night.
The 'Cats continue their three-match road trip on Saturday (Oct. 27) at Ferris State to take on the Bulldogs at 3 p.m.
