Soccer Defeated at Ferris State
BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University soccer team is downstate for its final two road games of the season. On Friday (Oct. 19), the Wildcats were defeated by Ferris State 5-2. NMU is now 3-11 overall and 2-8 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Sophomores Tevun Sellers and Kim Rietveld buried the two NMU goals in the first half.
The Bulldogs (6-5-3, 5-3-2 GLIAC) opened the game’s scoring two minutes into the game with a goal by Leanne Boehm assisted by Riley Wood.
Sellers scored her second of the season and eighth of her career to tie the score at one 5:39 into the game. Senior Amelia Johnson assisted on the goal.
Boehm scored her second goal at 33:43, this time from Stephanie Garland to make it 2-1. Wood her first of the game four minutes later for the two-goal lead (3-1).
Rietveld brought the ‘Cats to within one with her first of the season before halftime. It was unassisted and her fourth career goal.
FSU added two more goals in the second half. Wood scored her second of the game (61:16) and Jenna Ruimveld got on the board in the 70th minute.
The Bulldogs outshot the ‘Cats 19-12. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Shelby Conard had eight saves for NMU. Madde Hausten had five saves for Ferris.
The ‘Cats wrap-up the road schedule at Grand Valley State on Sunday (Oct. 21). Game time is set for 1 p.m. from Allendale.
