UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University soccer team lost its second game of the weekend on Sunday (Oct. 7) as Saginaw Valley State shutout the Wildcats 5-0 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest. Five different players scored for the Cardinals.
NMU falls to 3-8 overall and 2-6 in the GLIAC while SVSU improves to 5-2-4 and 4-1-3 in the conference.
SVSU scored two goals in the first half and three in the second. Annie Aubrey had a header in the 27th minute for the first goal. Thirteen minutes later, Olivia Perrin scored.
Seven minutes into the second half, Shelby Wright gave the Cardinals a 3-0 lead. Bailey Wysocki scored in the 68th minute and Kelsey Burt added the fifth goal in the 72nd minute.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Conard finished the game with three saves. Sophomore goalkeeper Nicole Musi added two.
The ‘Cats finished the game with nine total shots, while the Cardinals had 17. Senior Amelia Johnson along with sophomores Tevun Sellers and Kim Rietveld each had two shots for the ‘Cats
NMU will be back in action with two games at home this weekend against Ohio Dominican on Friday (Oct. 12) and the Ashland on Sunday (Oct. 14).
