MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University soccer team fell to visiting Tiffin University, 3-2 on Friday (Sept. 28) afternoon from the NMU Soccer Field in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup. The Wildcats are now 2-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
NMU senior Becky Fiorenza scored her first goal of the season 43:45 into the game with a free kick after a hand ball.
Tiffin (2-3-1, 2-0-1 GLIAC) answered less than a minute (44:38) later as Hannah McMasters headed in a corner shot by Stephanie Bowman.
The Dragons took the lead in the 54th minute on a shot by Olivia Haskin. She caught a pass in the box from Ashley Davis to make it 2-1.
Two minutes later, senior Amelia Johnson tied it up with her first of the season. On a breakaway, Johnson had her first shot saved and put home the rebound at 56:57.
Alexandra Sevastakis scored the game-winner for Tiffin with a blast from 27 yards out that found the bottom corner of the NMU net with 20 minutes remaining.
Northern outshot Tiffin 14-13. Johnson finished the game with seven shots, including five on goal. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Shelby Conard had six saves for the ‘Cats.
NMU will host the University of Findlay on Sunday (Sept. 30) at noon from the NMU Soccer Field.
