Soccer to Host Tiffin and Findlay
MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University soccer team will continue its three-game home stand as the Wildcats host Tiffin University and the University of Findlay this weekend for a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games. NMU will face Tiffin on Friday (Sept. 28) at 4 p.m. and Findlay on Sunday (Sept. 30) at noon from the NMU Soccer Field.
The ‘Cats enter the weekend at 2-5 overall and 1-2 in the GLIAC after falling to Michigan Tech last Saturday (Sept. 22). The two wins this season are over Minnesota-Crookston and Lake Erie.
Freshmen Hailey Beyrand, Tiffany Trembley, Gabriella Garza and sophomore Tevun Sellers each have one goal for the ‘Cats this season. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Shelby Conard has 33 saves and a 73.3 save percentage.
Tiffin is 2-3-2 overall and 0-1-2 in conference play on the season. The Dragons hosted a pair of games over the weekend against Ohio Dominican and Ashland. On Friday, Tiffin tied 0-1 with Ohio Dominican. For the game, there were 39 total shots and 16 saves between both teams. On Sunday, Ashland defeated Tiffin 2-1. Giulianne Dominigues had the lone goal for the Dragons in the 47th minute of the game.
The last time NMU faced Tiffin was last season in Marquette in the GLIAC Quarterfinals. The Dragons moved on with a 3-0 win. Tiffin leads the series 6-1-1, with a 4-0-0 record in Marquette.
Findlay (2-3-1, 2-0-1 GLIAC) had a pair of come-from-behind victories over Ohio Dominican and Ashland last weekend. On Friday, UF defeated Ashland 4-3 in overtime. The Eagles led the game 3-1 in the 80th minute before the Oilers tied it up with goals from Emily Beddoes and Sarah Silone late in regulation. Beddoes scored her second goal of the game for the win in overtime. In Saturday’s matchup against Ohio Dominican, the Oilers came out on top 5-4. The game was tied 4-4 in the 80th minute of the game until Findlay put the game away with a goal by Katelyn Anderson.
Northern leads the series against Findlay at home, 5-3-0, with an overall record of 9-9-1. The last time the two schools met was last season in Findlay, Ohio as the Oilers shutout the Wildcats 1-0.
