MARQUETTE, Mich. – For the second time this season, the Northern Michigan University soccer team was defeated by Michigan Tech. The Huskies shutout the Wildcats 5-0, with all five goals scored by different players on Saturday (Sept. 22) at the NMU Soccer Field. NMU now falls to 1-2 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play and 2-5 overall.
Michigan Tech (5-2, 3-0 GLIAC) wasted no time getting on the board, scoring less than minute into the game. MacKenzie Jordan scored the first goal on a rebound.
The second goal came at 10:50 by Lexi Herrewig from Alex Hynnek. Hynnek added her own goal in the 34th minute on a shot from just inside of the box.
Katie Boardman scored the fourth goal of the game at 60:09 after picking up the loose ball and scoring into the empty net. The final goal came nine minutes later on a pass from Lindsey Van Roy to Haley Crites.
NMU’s redshirt freshman goalkeeper Shelby Conard finished the game with six saves. Tech goalie Jenna Phelps had four shots on goal and four saves.
Northern had nine shots and Michigan Tech had 20 shots. NMU senior Brekelle Sellers had two shots on goal. Boardman led the way for the Huskies with five shots.
The ‘Cats will play their next two games at home, hosting Tiffin and Findlay next weekend.
