EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The Northern Michigan University cross country team finished sixth at the Blugold Invite at Whitetail Golf Course on Friday (Sept. 21).
The University of Minnesota won the meet with 34 team points. The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (60), Carleton College (90), Winona State University (100) and Luther College (131) finished ahead of the Wildcats.
“We ran a good race today against some very good competition,” NMU coach Jenny Ryan said. “We had some sick athletes and the team we had available ran very hard. Our younger runners stepped up in their absence.”
Junior Mallory Celaya was the top finisher for the ‘Cats in 19th place as she crossed the finish line in 22:53. Sophomore Olivia Howard finished 33rd in 23:12. Sophomore Larissa Halonen was seven seconds back in 38th.
Sophomore Katie Granquist (43rd) and senior Rita Woitas (53rd) rounded out the scoring for Northern.
Sophomore Chelsea Farquhar (54th) and senior Brittany Loomis (66th) also finished in the top 100.
NMU travels to St. Paul, Minn. next weekend for the Roy Griak Invite, the nation’s largest cross country meet.
