MARQUETTE, Mich. – After a week off, the Northern Michigan University cross country team travels to Eau Claire, Wis. to run in the Blugold Invite on Friday (Sept. 21) afternoon. The Wildcats were initially planning on traveling downstate to Midland, Mich. for a race at Northwood University but the race was cancelled. Friday’s six-kilometer race starts at 5 p.m. at the Whitetail Golf Course.
“I’m excited for another big event,” NMU coach Jenny Ryan said. “We’ll see how the team performs against new and quality competition.”
NMU has won both of its races so far this season at Michigan Tech and UW-Parkside.
“It will also be good to get veteran runners Larissa Halonen and Katie Granquist back to racing after missing our previous race with some injuries and sickness,” Ryan added.
Teams scheduled to compete in the race are Hamline, Lakehead, Luther, Michigan Tech, St. Catherine, St. Scholastica, Minnesota, UW-Eau Claire, UW-Platteville, UW-River Falls, UW-Stout, Viterbo and Winona State, who is ranked 10th in the Division II Central Region.
