SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University volleyball team improves its winning streak to four matches after Saturday’s (Sept. 15) matchup against Lake Superior State. The Wildcats won their second Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match, 3-1 (25-16, 25-19, 22-25, 25-16).

The ‘Cats (9-2, 2-0 GLIAC) took the first two sets before losing the third. NMU answered back by winning the fourth set to take the match.

Freshman Lisa Studnicka showed a stellar performance with 17 kills for the afternoon. She and junior Lina Lopes each had 14 digs. Studnicka added three service aces while Lopes had one.

Junior setter Kellisha Harley had 42 assists. Freshman Alex Berger led the team in digs with 18 while senior Kalin Zimmerman contributed nine.

LSSU (0-2, 3-7) was led by Nikki Stratelak with 13 kills and four digs. Marylou Drobish led the team in assists with 29. Katie Fitzpatrick contributed with 19 digs.

The ‘Cats will end their 13-match road trip with two matches in Ohio next weekend. NMU will face Lake Erie on Friday (Sept. 21) and Ashland on Saturday (Sept. 22).
