Cellaya Breaks School Record

ALLENDALE, Mich. – Two Northern Michigan University outdoor track and field team student-athletes participated at separate meets over the weekend.

Junior Mallory Cellaya was at the Second to Last Chance Meet and Last Chance Meet from the campus of Grand Valley State University on Friday and Saturday (May 11-12). She finished fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:49.92, breaking her school record in the event and improving her provisional qualifying time for the NCAA Championship by 10 seconds on Friday.

“Mallory ran very well Friday, trimming 10 seconds off her time and moving into the top 18 in the country,” assistant coach Jenny Ryan said.

Saturday, Cellaya finished second in the event with a time of 11:25.40.

Senior Bailey Franklin won the high jump at the UW-L Eagle Open on the campus of the University of Wisconsin La Crosse. She cleared the bar at 5 feet, 6 inches. Franklin also won the triple jump, clearing 38 feet, 2.25 inches.
