MARQUETTE, Mich. – United States Olympic Education Center Greco-Roman wrestlers Joey DeNova, Nick Alvarez and Marcus Finau placed first at the 2012 FILA Junior Nationals last Sunday, April 15,  in Madison, Wis..

            DeNova (Fortson, Ga.), a Northern Michigan University sophomore, went 4-0 and defeated USOEC recruit Jessy Williams 3-0, 1-0 in the championship match in the 60 kilogram weight class.

            At 66 kg, sophomore Alvarez (Miami, Fla.) had a tournament record of 3-0. He defeated Ryne Cokeley (Badger WC) 4-2, 6-4 in the final match,

            Finau (Ewa Beach, Hawaii), a sophomore, beat Austin Schafer in the final match 1-0, 0-4, 1-0, having a tournament record of 4-0 at 96 kg.

            Freshmen Dillon Cowan (Harvard, Ill.) and Parker Betts (St. Michael, Md.) placed second at 70 kg and 120 kg, respectively. Cowan lost in the final match 8-3, 6-0 to Brad Dolezal (Minnesota Storm). Betts lost to Adam Coon 1-0, 8-4.

            In the 74 kg weight class, facility-use athlete Patrick Budd (Harrisburg, Pa.) and freshman Austin Barton (Phoenix, Ariz.) wrestled each other for third place with Budd defeating Barton 1-0, 5-0.
