DE PERE, Wis. – The Northern Michigan University outdoor track and field team won the three-team St. Norbert Twilight meet at Schneider Stadium on the campus of St. Norbert University on Thursday (April 5) evening. As a team, the Wildcats scored 85 points to beat out St. Norbert (56) and Michigan Tech (35). NMU won 12 events and broke a school record.
Junior Mallory Celaya broke the 3,000-meter steeplechase record for the second time this season, winning the race in 11:07.62. Her time is a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Championship.
The ‘Cats swept the top three spots in the 100 hurdles with redshirt freshman Sherice Hewett (14.97) coming in first and sophomore Katie Searles (15.64) and senior Melissa Christensen (15.64) following.
Freshman Angelina Howard took home the 100 and 200 dashes. She ran the 100 in 12.3 seconds and the 200 in 27.27. The 4x100 relay team had a first place finish in a time of 49.77 seconds.
Junior Colby West won the 400 hurdles in 1:05.91 with Hewett in third place. Sophomore Sydney Schultz was third in the 400.
Senior Rachael Williams (2nd) and sophomore Katie Granquist (4th) were in the top five in the 800. Junior Kristina Donley, freshman Abby Roche, freshman Caitlin Keskey, sophomore Kristina Mattson and sophomore Alicia Romano finished in spots eight thru 12 in the race.
Freshman Larissa Halonen (4:53.13) and junior Nora Kiilunen (4:53.24) were the top two finishers in the 1,500. Junior Rita Woitas, freshman Olivia Howard, freshman Emily Allen and junior Brittany Loomis finished in spots second thru fifth in the 5,000 run.
Senior Bailey Franklin won the triple jump (36 feet, 4 inches) and the high jump (5 feet, 4 inches). Sophomore Jamie Roberts cleared 12 feet, 4 inches to win the pole vault. She is a provisional qualifier in the event for the NCAA Championship.
Christensen won the long jump, clearing 17 feet, 3 inches and was second in the high jump. Junior Mariah Beaman won the javelin throw (120 feet, 2 inches) and was third in the long jump.
Redshirt freshman Kylie Basarabski took third in the discus and Searles was second in the javelin. Sophomore Mary Dillow was fourth in the discus and third in the hammer throw.
The meet was the first on-campus track and field meet for St. Norbert since 1980. The ‘Cats travel to Grand Valley on April 20-21 for the Al Owens Classic.
