MANSFIELD, Texas – Junior Gaby Alzaga, of the Northern Michigan University swimming and diving team, is an All-American after an eighth place finish in the 200-yard backstroke at the 2012 Division II NCAA Swimming and Diving Championship from the Mansfield Independent School District Natatorium in Mansfield, Texas.
Alzaga finished the championship heat of the 200 backstroke in eighth place and had a time of 2:02.21 on Saturday (March. 17).
“I’m really proud of Gaby,” NMU coach Heidi Voigt said. “She swam awesome today!”
Freshman Emily Brennan raced in the 200 breaststroke on Saturday with a 30th place finish.
“I’m very proud of both swimmers,” Voigt added. “We have a lot to look forward to in the coming years with so much youth and talent.”
NMU finished with 12 points over the weekend for 31st place.
The NCAA Championships wrap up the 2011-12 season for the Wildcats.
