USOEC's Henry and Serpan Place Third

Marquette, Mich.– U.S. Olympic Education Center weightlifter Allie Henry placed third at the 2012 Olympic Trials and teammate Shelbie Serpan placed third at the National Weightlifting Championships. Both events were held March 2-4 in Columbus, Ohio.

            Henry (River Falls, Wis.), a Northern Michigan University senior, competed in the 69 kilogram weight class. She lifted a total of 194 kg, with a 90 kg snatch and a 104 kg clean and jerk.

            In the 75+ kg weight class, Serpan (Clearwater, Kan.) lifted a total of 212 kg with a snatch of 92 kg. Serpan completed all three clean and jerk lifts, with 120 kg her best lift.

            Freshman Ryan Borges (Bradenton, Fla.) placed fourth in the 62 kg weight class. He lifted a snatch of 94 kg and a clean a jerk of 122 kg, for a total of 216 kg.

            Graduate student Breanne Carlson (Peshtigo, Wis.) placed seventh at 53 kg and junior Mathew Fraser (Colchester, Vt.) placed eighth in the 85 kg weight class.

            Junior Dan Gorelik (Moorestown, N.J.) and freshman John McGovern (Pensacola, Fla.) both placed 12th in the 94 kg and 85 kg weight class, respectively.
