MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan will have two student-athletes representing the Wildcats at the 2012 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championship. Freshman Emily Brennan and junior Gaby Alzaga will swim in Mansfield, Texas this weekend.

“It’ll be a fun weekend and Emily and Gaby are excited,” NMU coach Heidi Voigt said. “Both qualified in an individual event and were invited to swim in races they had a B cut time.”

Brennan will swim in the 400-yard individual medley, the 200 breaststroke and the 200 IM. She is ranked 14th in the 400 IM heading into the championship. The 200 IM will be on Wednesday (Mar. 14), the 400 IM on Thursday (Mar. 15) and 200 breaststroke on Saturday (Mar. 17).

Alzaga will swim the 100 and 200-yard backstroke races. The 100 backstroke is on Friday (Mar. 16) and the 200 backstroke is on Saturday. She is ranked 12th in the 200 back.

“We have a race everyday and we have a shot at making finals,” Voigt added.

All four days begin with the trials at 11:30 a.m. and the finals at 7 p.m. The top 16 from the trial round make it to the evening finals.
