Pump Up the Dome Attracts Thousands
MARQUETTE, Mich. – The annual Pump Up the Dome event was recently held at the Superior Dome on Sunday, Feb. 19.
The Superior Dome Inflatable Game Day serves as a fundraiser for Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreational Sports.
“We had a good turnout this year,” Associate Athletic Director for Programming and Recreational Sports Brian Gaudreau said. “I estimate that we had 4,000-5,000 attendees.”
The event featured inflatable bounce houses, four slides, an obstacle course as well as the U.P.’s largest indoor sandbox.
“The sandbox was a big attraction for a lot those parents who had smaller children,” Gaudreau said. “It was fun to see all the parents building sandcastles with the kids.”
As for the bigger kids, endurance activities appeared to the popular choice.
“Two of our more popular attractions this year for the older kids were the mechanical bull and the climbing tower,” Gaudreau added.
The money raised from the event goes back to Recreational Sports. Half of that will go to the Recreational Sports Department itself, with the other half being divided among the sports clubs.
“The event raised some $18,000 for Recreational Sports,” Gaudreau said.
As for the future of Pump Up of the Dome, Gaudreau is excited to see what next year may bring.
“Next year we look to add some different activities for the event,” Gaudreau said. “It’s great to see how this has evolved in the two years that we have hosted it.”
