MARQUETTE, Mich. – Looking to snap a six-game skid, the Northern Michigan men’s basketball team hits the road for the final team in the regular season this week, traveling to Ohio to take on south division foes Lake Erie (Feb. 16) and Ashland (Feb. 18).

The Wildcats enter the matchup at 8-14 on the season and 4-11 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. NMU dropped a 68-64 game to Lake Superior State back on Feb. 9. The ‘Cats held a nine point lead at the break before the Lakers shooting caught fire, connecting on 57.1 percent from the field and 60.0 percent from long range in the second half.

Senior guard DeAndre Taylor and freshman guard Haki Stampley each netted 16 points in the loss. Senior center Jared Benson also chipped in eight points and nine rebounds. The senior is now 30 points away from reaching the 1,000 point mark and would be just the 29th player in NMU history to do so.

Lake Erie enters the contest at 8-14 on the season and 3-12 in the GLIAC. Thursday’s meeting is just the second ever against the two schools. The Storm dropped a pair of games last weekend to Ferris State and Grand Valley State.

Last season, the Storm took a 66-50 contest over the ‘Cats in Marquette.

Thursday’s game is part of a doubleheader, with the game set to tipoff at 8 p.m.

On Saturday, NMU travels to Ashland for a matinee contest. The Eagles enter the week at 13-10 on the season and 8-8 in the GLIAC. Ashland currently sits in fourth place in the south division, also dropping a pair of contests against GVSU and FSU last week.

The ‘Cats are 8-10 all-time against the Eagles dating back to the 1995-96 season. NMU took a 72-68 decision last season in Marquette.

Saturday’s game is also part of a doubleheader, with the game set to tipoff at 3 p.m.
