ALLENDALE, Mich. – The No. 17 Northern Michigan indoor track and field team got the weekend started on Friday (Feb. 10) with two school records at the GVSU Big Meet in the Kelly Family Sports Center on the campus of Grand Valley State University. Friday’s events were by invite only.
“The day went well,” NMU coach Tom Barnes said. “Angelina broke her school record and Catherine tied hers.”
Freshman Angelina Howard broke the 60-meter dash record, running 7.74 second in the preliminaries. She finished seventh in the finals of the event.
“Angelina is running very well,” Barnes added. “She has great composure for a freshman.”
Jaime Roberts finished ninth in the pole vault with a jump of 12-foot-3.5 to tie her school record.
“Jaime opened the day with a high mark,” said Barnes. “She also used a heavier pole today and adjusted well to it.”
Senior Bailey Franklin won the high jump, clearing 5-foot-6. Redshirt freshman Sherice Hewett had her second longest jump of the season in the triple. She finished fourth with a jump of 38-foot-5.5.
Senior Melissa Christensen finished fifth in the pentathlon with a score of 3,197. Senior Catherine Angeli finished 12th in the 200-meter dash.
The Wildcats get back to action on Saturday (Feb. 11) with events starting at 11 a.m. Over 50 schools and 1,900 student-athletes are involved in this weekend’s GVSU Big Meet.
