MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan men’s and women’s Nordic ski teams completed a successful run in the 2012 Noquemenon Ski Marathon on Saturday (Jan. 28).

The program competed in both the 24k classic and 24k freestyle races with both sides represented well.

In the 24k classic, the Wildcat men swept the top six positions, with sophomore Erik Soderman coming home in first place with a time of 01:01.10.2. Freshman Kjell-Christian Markset was a close second, crossing the finish line with a time of 01:01.11.7. Following Markset were senior Kevin Cutts, sophomore Ben Hugus, freshman Kyle Bratrud and junior Chris Bowler.

On the women’s side, sophomore Jordyn Ross finished seventh with a time of 01:13.24.7. Following Ross was freshman Ingrid Saupstad with a time of 01:14.32.4 in eighth place and rounding out the top nine for NMU was freshman Felecia Geisor with a time of 01:14.44.9. Between the two teams, the ‘Cats swept the top nine positions.

Assistant coach Jenny Ryan finished in 24th place in the classic event with a time of 01:29.55.5.

In the 24k freestyle race, juniors Monica Markvardsen and Marie Helen Soderman finished in the top 10 for NMU. Markvardsen crossed the line in fifth place with a time of 01:03.10.7 with Soderman finishing in eighth with a time of 01:05.09.8.
