NEW ORLEANS – The Northern Michigan indoor track and field team is ranked No. 21 in the first U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national team computer ranking. The first ranking of the season take this year’s results along with top returners from last year into consideration.
This season, freshman Sherice Hewitt is 11th in the triple jump, in the nation, while seniors Bailey Franklin and Melissa Christensen are 13th and 14th in the pentathlon.
Franklin is fourth in the high jump and ninth in the triple jump from last year’s results. Also from last year, Sophomore Jamie Roberts is 10th in the pole vault and senior Catherine Angeli is in the top 30 in the 60 and 200-meter dashes.
Grand Valley (1st), Ashland (4th), Hillsdale (15th) and Findlay (18th) are also ranked from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
The Wildcats travel to the University of Wisconsin on Saturday (Jan. 21) to participate in the UW-Elite meet.
