OSHKOSH, Wis. – The Northern Michigan swimming and diving team competed at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh for the second day of its two-day meet on Saturday (Jan. 7) morning.
The Wildcats won every event on the weekend, winning 146-96 on Friday (Jan. 6) and 209-50 on Saturday from Albee Hall.
“It was a great day,” NMU coach Heidi Voigt said. “We had a really hard week of training and they responded with a great weekend in the pool.”
Two NMU swimmers had a four-win day on Saturday. Freshmen Emily Bourguignon and Debbi Lawrence swept their events. Individually, Bourguignon won the 100 and 200 yard freestyle races. She was also on the 200 medley and the 200 freestyle relay squads.
Lawrence won the 100 and 200 backstroke, the 100 butterfly and was on the 200 freestyle relay team.
“It was fun to see athletes win some events for the first time as collegiate swimmers,” Voigt added.
Freshman Kayla Barr won the 1,000 freestyle with senior teammate Stephanie Rogazewski finishing second. Junior Olga Budiansky, freshman Emily Brennan, sophomore Kelsey Sipple and senior Jenny Gallagher finished in the top five spots of the 100 breaststroke.
Freshmen Taylor Grimm and Jordan Iverson and junior Lauren Cockels swept in the 200 butterfly. Sipple and freshman Tara Dowling were the top two in the 50 freestyle. Cockels and Gallagher finishes second and third to Lawrence in the 100 butterfly.
Freshman Madisen Sechena, Budiansky and freshman Aspen McHugh were the top three in the 200 breaststroke. Brennan won the 500 freestyle with freshman Dakota Sechena in second. Brennan also won the 200 IM with Madisen Sechena and McHugh right behind.
Budiansky, Sechena and Sipple teamed up with Bourguignon in the 200 medley relay. Cockels and Sipple were also on the 200 freestyle relay.

The ‘Cats host an intrasquad meet from the PEIF Pool next Saturday (Jan. 14). The seniors will be honored at the 5 p.m. meet.
